PETERLOON FARM

Twin Fences is the southwestern portion of Peterloon Farm, which was originally 1200 acres assembled beginning in the 1920's by John J. Emery and his wife Irene Gibson Emery.  Mr. Emery was part of a family whose Cincinnati history traces back to the 1830's.  The family were originally candlemakers whose business evolved into a publicly-traded specialty chemical business.  In addition they were real estate developers and owners with properties that included the Carew Tower, the Terrace Hilton, as well as the founding of Mariemont as a planned community.

Beginning in the late 1920's, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Emery assembled their farm and built the Peterloon House, which is a half mile northeast of Twin Fences.  The farm consisted of stables, riding trails, a number of barns and several houses for resident farmers.  Twin Fences is immediately south of what once were the apple orchards of Peterloon Farm.
